I often hear from injured workers a belief that the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) is there to look out for them. They didn’t think an attorney was needed because BWC would take care of them.
Unfortunately, this is often times NOT the case. In fact, more often than not BWC operates in an adversarial position, denying a claim, compensation, treatment, etc. Often times, an injured worker ends up with two entities against them, the employer AND BWC.
For proof, one need look no further than the BWC’s twitter feed. Frankly, until recently I had no idea BWC even had a twitter feed. In reviewing the contents, it quickly became apparent that the BWC ‘tweets’ are very much one sided. The content is very employer friendly and very anti-injured worker. Many of the stories focus on injured workers committing fraud. And yet, there was not a single ‘tweet’ regarding employer fraud. When not bashing injured workers, the BWC uses social medial like twitter to focus on providing helpful information to employers. Where is the helpful information for the injured worker?
This is yet another reason why it is so important for an injured worker to have an advocate in their corner. Gallon, Takacs, Boissoneault & Schaffer Co., L.P.A. specializes in advocating for injured workers. Our workers’ compensation section is solely dedicated to representing people who have been injured on the job.
