We have all heard the news of a possible Government shutdown starting tomorrow. The Social Security Administration has released its plan for operating during the shutdown. You can read the entire memo here. The good news for people who are receiving benefits is that you should continue to receive those benefits without interruption. These benefits are not part of the current continuing resolution and will remain unaffected. Also, Judges will continue to hear and decide cases. However, the memo states that the scheduling of hearings and docketing new cases will not take place during the shutdown. So if you are waiting for a Social Security hearing, it may take longer depending on how long the shutdown lasts. Social Security will continue to take and process new applications and appeals for disability benefits, but it may take longer to get a decision. If you have any questions, please contact us.
