For the month ending January 2011, statistics have been released regarding processing times, and to no one’s surprise, Toledo, OH is ranked 13th from the bottom, nationwide. Ten judges were assigned here when the office was opened in October, 2010 and hopefully this situation will improve as time goes by; however, many of the judges assigned to Toledo have already been approved for transfer, so that we don’t know, at this point, how many judges will be hearing cases in Toledo or whether the processing time, currently 458 days, will improve.
Not surprisingly, Columbus, Oh has the longest processing time of 556 days, to wait for a hearing, while Lansing, MI and Cleveland, OH where not much better at 539 and 519 days respectively. Dayton comes in at 490 days, ten spots above the bottom.
Much of this is reflective of the economy, here in Ohio and the Midwest, as well as the amount of people trying to get on disability. Additionally, the continually aging population adds more pressure to the disability system because of illness and potential for injuries which don’t improve over time.
