On June 26, 2013, the Ohio House of Representatives approved a bill that would ban the use of red light and speed cameras in the State of Ohio. By a vote of 61 to 32, the House approved House Bill 69 which will require the removal of all traffic law enforcement cameras, except mobile units in school zones as long as the officer is present.
Those lawmakers in favor of this legislation contend that some local municipalities overuse the cameras to gain revenue for local governments. The bill will now be presented to the Senate where it will be debated during the fall session.
