Senator Al Franken of Minnesota is set to introduce new legislation in the Senate to help rein in debt collectors. The legislation would be the first major update to the original legislation passed by Congress in 1977.
The bill would increase the penalties for violations of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and also prohibit the ability of collectors to seek arrest warrants to aid in the collection of an upaid debt.
Have you been the victim of an abusive debt collector? Have you been threatened or the victim of abusive language?
