Social Security created a voluntary program called the Ticket to Work Program to help individuals receiving disability benefits get back into the workforce. This program is open to disabled individuals receiving both Disability Insurance Benefits and Supplemental Security Income.
The Ticket to Work program gives a voucher to qualifying individuals that they can redeem to participate with one of several rehabilitation services or employment networks. These services will help to train you to get back into the workforce or help you to find a job.
What are the advantages to using this program? First, you still entitled to receive your ongoing benefits while you are participating in the ticket to work program. Second, Social Security will not re-evaluate your claim based on any work activity while you are participating. Additionally, if you do return to work you may be eligible for a period of trial work that was discussed in an earlier post.
