FDA announced again in March 2015 of the dangerous supplements found in weight loss supplements such as, Black Mamba, Hyperrush, Diablos ECA Fir Caps, Natural Max Slimming and Lean Body Extreme.

It is well known that approximately 40% of Americans use supplements for nutrition, weight loss, body building, recreation, sexual enhancement and much more.  Americans spend approximately $2 billion a year on weight loss supplements. These supplements promoted for weight loss encompass a wide variety of products and come in a variety of forms. FDA regulates dietary supplements promoted for weight loss in accordance with the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994. However, these pills differ from over-the-counter or prescription medications in that the FDA does not classify them as drugs and they do not require pre-market review or approval.

The dangerous supplements may include the following dangerous drugs:

• Phenolphthalein
• Fluoxetine
• Sibutramine (Meridia), is an oral anorexiant that is prescribed for treatment of exogenous obesity along with diet and exercise; and
• Sildenafil (Viagra), used to treat erectile dysfunction and pulmonary hypertension.

Both Phenolphthalein and Sibutramine were recalled and taken off the market.  Sibutramine was recalled in October 2010 after a study linked it to an increased risk of heart attack, irregular heart rhythm, stroke and seizures. Sibutraime is an oral anorexiant that is prescribed for treatment of exogenous obesity along with diet and exercise.  Phenolphthalein was a popular over-the-counter laxative for much of the 20th  century. However, it was taken off the market after several animal studies showed a wide range of carcinogenic (cancer causing) effects associated with long term use of the drug. Fluoxetine is used to treat depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, bulimia, and panic disorders. Sildenafil is used to treat one of the two problems, erectile dysfunction and to improve ability to exercise in adults with pulmonary arterial hypertension by reducing the pressure in the pulmonary artery. Not surprisingly, the amount of scientific information available on these ingredients varies considerably. In most cases, purported benefits are based on limited theoretical data or animal and laboratory studies rather than human clinical trials.  Weight loss supplements have been linked to the following injuries:
